Summertime is the perfect time to fire up your new grill and enjoy some delicious BBQ. But before you can enjoy those cookouts, you need to buy a grill!

To get the best selection and the best prices, you need to know when to start shopping. This quick read provides a few tips to help you find the perfect BBQ grill at a great price, and also a few things to consider when buying one.

So, when is the best time to buy?

There are different times of the year that are good times to nab a bargain and some of the answers may surprise you.

One of the best times to buy a grill is actually toward the end of summer or in the fall! Here are a few reasons why:

  • Grills go on clearance. As summer comes to an end, stores start clearing out their inventory of grills to make room for other seasonal items. This means that you can find some great deals on grills if you're willing to wait until fall.
  • You'll have time to research. If you wait until spring or summer to buy a grill, you may feel pressured to make a decision quickly so that you can start using it right away. But if you buy in autumn, you'll have plenty of time to do your research and make sure you're getting the best possible deal on your new grill.
  • The weather is still nice. In most parts of the country, the weather is still warm enough to use a grill well into October. So, if you buy your grill in September or October, you'll be able to enjoy it for several more weeks before winter sets in.

Another good time to buy a grill is often in late spring or early summer.

  • This is when many stores are getting rid of floor model grills or last year's stock to make room for new inventory, so you can often find some great deals. However, if you wait too long, all the good grills will be gone, so don't wait too long to start shopping if you would like to grab a deal at this time of the year or you might end up having to pay full price.
  • Remember, if you're buying older or discontinued stock that while some grill models don't change a lot, some do make improvements or add features so consider that if buying a previous year's model.

Buyers can usually find good discounts on grills during the winter months as demand reduces and businesses still want to sell.

Another time that can be a great time to grab a deal is just after the 4th of July holiday weekend as the peak grill season is coming to its end.

As you will have probably worked out by now, summertime (particularly between March and June) is the worst time to buy a grill in terms of price as it's peak grilling season and businesses know that customer demand is high. While we do all want to buy a new grill during the summer months, so does everybody else, so while some deals do happen at this time of the year, they are fewer and farther between!

One thing to remember, however, if you aren't so worried about price or if you want to research brands and features, is that you typically find a greater variety of grills during spring and early summer with retailers filling their stores with the latest and greatest units, so for some people, this will be an attractive time to look at what they want, and potentially purchase it at that time, or later when the sales come on.

What else should be considered when buying a grill?

When you are looking to buy a new grill, the first thing to consider is what type of grill you want. Gas grills tend to be more expensive than charcoal grills, but they're also much easier to use. If you want a lot of smoky flavors then a pellet grill might be the way to go or a gas grill with a simple and inexpensive pellet smoke tube.  Or if you want something that's easy and can be used inside as well, then electric grills might be the way to go.

If you're not sure which type of grill is right for you, take some time to read online reviews or talk to friends who already have grills. Once you've decided on the type of grill you want, it's time to start shopping around.

Also, consider how you will use the grill. If you plan on cooking for large groups, look for a model with plenty of space and multiple burners.

  • Size: The size of the grill you need depends on how much space you have and how many people you typically cook for. If you have a large family or entertain often, you'll want a larger grill. If you have a small patio or balcony, you'll want to consider a smaller grill.
  • Price: There is a wide range of prices for grills. You can find a basic model for around $100 or spend several thousand dollars on a high-end model. It's important to find something that fits your budget but also has the features you want.
  • Features: Some features to look for include a charcoal grill, propane grills, charcoal, electric, or pellet grills. Side burner, rotisserie, sear station, smoker box, and a warming rack.  Also, do you want to buy a new, or a used grill?  If you're looking for used, some local stores or garage sales might be the way to go for the best deals, but be careful about your purchase as you don't want to end up with a lemon.

To Sum Up...

So, there you have it—there are different times of the year that are great to buy new bbq grills, and typically between March to June is when prices will be highest, although variety may be best. There are also a few things to consider before buying your new grill, as outlined in this blog.
